Long Lane & School Lane - UPDATE

The intersection of Long Lane and School Lane is an important focus area for pedestrian safety improvements. In August, we requested that the township commission a professional engineer to conduct a Pedestrian Safety Study, and we're grateful for the strong community support—more than 70 neighbors signed the petition. On September 15, we met with the Willistown Police, who committed to leading efforts to enhance safety at this location and scheduled a site visit with engineers for September 24 to assess conditions. We're looking forward to receiving updates on that meeting and the timeline for the engineers' report as we work together on the next steps to make this intersection safer for everyone

This study will deliver concrete, actionable recommendations to make Long Lane safer for everyone who walks there.

Thank you to the 70+ Willistown residents who signed our Long Lane Petition last month.  Your participation made this possible.

N. Cedar Hollow & W. Central: UPDATE

This summer, we were encouraged by the strong community response—more than 150 Willistown residents signed a petition supporting a Pedestrian Safety Study in the North Cedar Hollow and West Central communities in the northeastern part of the township. We initially submitted the request to PennDOT, which directed us to Willistown Township. On August 23, we formally submitted our request to Supervisors Shoemaker, Perrin, and McCarry. We've followed up and there has been no response. However, we remain committed to working with the township to move this important safety initiative forward. We'll keep you informed as we hear back and work together on next steps.

Why This Matters

These roads are critical connections for our community. Safe pedestrian and bike infrastructure on N. Cedar Hollow and W. Central would make it possible to walk and bike to the hospital, train station, downtown Paoli, and the Chester Valley Trail—transforming how we move through Willistown.

This study will deliver concrete, actionable recommendations to make N. Cedar and W. Central safer for everyone who lives there.

Willistown Will Require Developer to Build Sidewalk Along North Cedar Hollow Road

Great news for a more connected Willistown! After more than five years of review, the township will require the developer of a new housing project to build sidewalks along North Cedar Hollow Road in Paoli—a feature that was not included in earlier plans. Thanks to your support and the community’s strong call for safer, more walkable and bike-friendly streets, this important connection is moving forward. The new sidewalk will help link nearby neighborhoods to the Chester Valley Trail, downtown Paoli, Paoli Station, and the hospital, marking a meaningful step toward a safer and better-connected community.

Willistown’s Neighbor Plans for Route 30 “ Road Diet”

Easttown Township, our neighbor to the east, recently held a planning meeting to review major proposed changes to Route 30 (Lancaster Ave) around the Berwyn Train Station. The plan would transform the existing four-lane road into three lanes through a “road diet,” while adding sidewalks, trees, benches, and public plazas. The project’s focus is on slowing traffic and creating a safer, more welcoming environment for pedestrians. This marks the first time Easttown Township has taken a comprehensive look at this long-standing issue, signaling an important step toward a more walkable and people-friendly Berwyn.
