Building safe walkability in Willistown Township

Walkable Willistown Makes the Front Page

"Of all the paths you take in life, make sure a few of them are made of dirt," wrote conservationist John Muir.

Since 2021, the Walkable Willistown team has led a grassroots effort to increase walkability and bikeability in the township. Propelled by a mission to improve community safety and connectivity, enhance well-being, and promote eco-friendly transportation, we are local citizens at the forefront of the progress being made in the Township.

Our team's dedication to raising community awareness has resulted in the Board of Supervisors taking action. In the Spring edition of the WillisTowne Crier, Township Manager Shanna Lodge asserts that the commencement of a Circulation Study, which has been budgeted at $50,000, was set as a priority for the Board of Supervisors in 2025. Aligning with the citizen feedback reflected in the 2023 Comprehensive Plan, the Study will identify areas where sidewalks, off-road trails, and bike lanes can be accommodated while preserving Willistown's rural character.

Walkable Willistown's work is rooted in cultivating partnerships at the municipal, county, and state levels; conducting research; organizing outreach events; and building neighborhood engagement. Township residents are encouraged to reach out to Walkable Willistown at WalkableWillistown.org to provide feedback and to get involved!
